The South Wales town of Caerphilly is home to a type of cheese, a 13th century castle and Rhiannon Evans. At the age of 8 she decided she wanted to be a Disney animator when she grew up but followed a more academic course studying sciences at school and beginning a degree in Biology. It was at this time she returned to the idea of a career in the arts when she was asked to draw a diagram of a starfish and was criticised for making it look too artistic after adding some shading.
Rhiannon studied a Foundation degree in Art and Design at GCADT in Pontypridd whilst working part time in a cinema to feed her lifelong love of film. In 2006 she began a BA(Hons) in Animation at the International Film School Wales in Newport. Her first short, the 35 second long Into The Inkwell, was Rhiannonʼs introduction to stop motion. She continued with the technique to create her graduation film Heartstrings which to date has won 14 awards worldwide and has been nominated for a 2010 British Animation Award.
